September: Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

On September 26th, 2019, September was officially recognized as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month(CCAM). With CCAM their goal is to try and increase the awareness and raise funds for those affected by childhood cancer. What is the importance of Childhood Cancer awareness month? The importance of childhood cancer awareness month is to be able to celebrate the advances in CC treatment and supervisorship care as well as to remember the children that we've lost due to childhood cancer.


Moving along in honor of CCAM to help support the children suffering they’re are 5 ongoing organizations you can donate to including, 1. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. 2. Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. 3. National Pediatric Cancer Foundation. 4. Ronald McDonald House Charities. 5. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. To expand upon, September's CCAM also has current running events including Founding hope fund for families which is a program that allows families honor a child and make an impact on the CC community with ACCO taking care of the non-profit administrative needs required for the Irs.


Now let’s go into the facts and statuses of ACCAM. 12.2% of all newly diagnosed brain tumors occur under the age of 20. Following, there are more than 500,000 childhood cancer survivors currently estimated at 37.4%. Speaking of childhood cancer the average age of cancer a child is diagnosed with is 6. On average, 1 in every 4 elementary schools has a child with cancer. The average high school has two students who are current or former cancer patients. In the U.S, about 46 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer every weekday.
