The 2022 girls golf team finished their regular season 6–4, but it hasn’t been without some new challenges. After their home course permanently closed, they were forced to relocate to Creekside Golf Course in Valparaiso.
Coach Tommy Bonez says, “it’s been a smooth transition and Creekside has been very welcoming and accommodating“. Creekside is very popular with other local school districts as well as the community. PHS shares the golf course with three other high school teams in the area. Bonez adds, “it’s a great course to practice and play“.
Despite the change, Bonez says he is not surprised by the veteran group of girls on the team. “They have competed well in a very tough Duneland Athletic Conference and I’m proud of the effort they have given “. Of the nine members on the team, five are seniors. Bonez states, “The seniors have grown tremendously and have worked hard to make this season their best yet “. Bonez is optimistic that the current underclassmen will be ready to take the reins and come out ready to go for the 2023 season.
According to Bonez, each team member plays a role as a leader. “All of our players have been leaders in some way, shape, or form. Some lead by example, while others are more vocal in keeping the team focused on what we need to do to be successful”. He is also proud of his teams academic achievements. These girls “are outstanding students and work hard in the classroom. As a coach, that’s all I could ask for."
